Electronics: Speakers

Electronics- Speakers
Broadly speaking speakers deliver sound in three ranges- High Frequencies- Shrill and fine sounds like screeching, pin dropping sounds, glass breaking etc. Mid range frequencies- general dialogue and our voice Low range frequencies- Thumping bass and booming sound, remember the dinosuar steps in jurrasic park. A lot of speakers out in the market have a littile more of one or a littile less of one of the three above mentioned ranges and it is very important to identify what they are offering adn what exactly you desire. so the best way to find out is by listening to them. never take some one elses word , as most people differ on what they think is the best combination. For people who are into a lot of rap, hiphop and rock make sure your low ranges are good, for blue grass, country and jazz listeners the priority would be midd and high ranges , For the average home theatre listener i would recommend a good high & low range as i can live with an acceptable mid range( mostly on centre channel- dialogue) and would like to get some audio effects from the mains and rear speakers. stuff like bombs exploding and choppers flying around . based on my experience a standard bose tower speakers seem to be o.k in low range, good in high range and o.k in med ranges, primarily because bose uses paper cones and that is the reason for it being good in high ranges, however i have personally found the infinity speakers to be better all round performing speakers, One more thing to consider while buying speakers - since we now know that sound basically is divided into 3 ranges, a 3 way speaker(different speakers for each range) delivers much better sound than a 2 way speaker. in a 3 way speaker there are atleast 3 speakers which usually are a tweeter( high ranges) speaker(mid ranges) and a woofer(low ranges) which cover the spectrum and hence deliver better sounding sound. it is preferable to have all the 4, 5, or 6 speakers that you might have in your home theatre assembly other than centre and woofer to be 3 way speakers. some people sacrifice the low ranges on their mains and rears as they think that having a subwoofer shall do the job. however leaving the lows to the subwoofer alone is not a good idea. you might get a set of speakers that are slightly weak on the lows but do not get any that are bad with the lows. so now the types, JBL is a strong mid range and low range Infinity better all round performer Bose good highs, o.k med and o.k lows yamaha's r o.k in lows and mids lacka littile in highs sony and panasonics are crap and alot of audiophile brands are good and most of them are very strrong in mids and lows and slightly weak in highs, so it all ends with your personal preferences.. polks are o.k and most cheaper models are o.k but you will only be able to tell the difference when you listen to them all one after the ohter to the same track in the same setting Pioneer which i use are very good in highs and o.k in lows and fair in mids. but cost a fraction of what you'd end up spending on an infinity or bose towers. always make sure you compare comparable models which are close in price.
